Biography

Dr. Irfan Khan has over a decade of experience in endocrinology and diabetes, gained through work in various UK-based hospitals. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan, in 2004, and subsequently pursued specialist training in Endocrinology and Diabetes in the Severn deanery of Southwest UK.


Dr. Khan holds dual Certificates of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Internal Medicine. He has also received the prestigious fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in the UK.
To further enhance his knowledge in obesity management, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Obesity, Weight Management and Bariatric Medicine in the UK and holds certification from the Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE).


His practice in the UK involved working within a multidisciplinary team that provided advanced care for patients with a diverse range of disorders, including endocrine abnormalities such as adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, and reproductive hormone disorders, as well as conditions related to infertility and parathyroid gland and calcium metabolism.


Dr. Khan also specialised in complex diabetes care, encompassing type 1 diabetes management and the use of advanced diabetes technologies like flash glucose monitoring (e.g., Freestyle Libre) and continuous glucose monitoring (e.g., DEXCOM 1), with a focus on type 2 diabetes cases, especially those linked to metabolic syndrome. His approach emphasised cardiovascular risk reduction, diabetes-related kidney disease management and the treatment of lipid disorders.


Beyond his general expertise, Dr. Khan has a subspecialty interest in the gut-brain hormonal cross-talk, the GLP-1/Incretin pathway, medical weight management, technology in diabetes care, gestational diabetes and preventive measures for type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.


During his tenure in the UK, he proactively took up training and teaching roles, including serving as an RCP tutor for his trust.
